The Hope Social Union for the Visually Impaired (HSUVI) Bamenda wishes you a blessed, lovely and prosperous October month which is usually regarded as blind awareness month!
HSUVI is exerting this wonderful opportunity to inform the local, regional and national communities that this Tuesday October 15 is commemorated worldwide as White Cane Safety-day. But HSUVI Bamenda the lead association for persons with visual impairments in the North West and beyond has deferred her own commemorative activities to take place on Thursday October 17, 2024 at her Mile 4 Nkwen Bamenda III head office and her environs.
Bearing in mind that the white cane is a symbol of safety and independence for the visually impaired; considering the fact that the white cane is to the blind and visually impaired as sight is to the sighted; taking into cognizant that HSUVI has orientation and mobility training as one of her primordial training activities; the association is using this great occasion to lay more emphasis to the importance of the white cane to all and sundry especially to the blind and to all road users. It is to this effect that the organization modestly calls on all goodwill persons, the relevant road stakeholders of our society like drivers, riders, officials of the delegations of transport, forces of law and security along our roads, including you to kindly draw closer to all white cane users with vision impairments in order to abate the frequent road accidents on the non-sighted worldwide, above all to eliminate the societal ignorance and unfounded myths usually linked to the white cane.
At the meantime, members of the general public–the blind and all interested non-visually impaired of all works of life including you are encouraged to rush to our mile 4 Nkwen Bamenda office space between today and Thursday so as to either join in the commemorative activities and/or donate a white cane to a blind user. By so doing, you are actively participating in mobility inclusion for the blind and raising maximum awareness on the importance of the white cane.
