Empowering the Visually Impaired Through Skills That Shine
Vocational Skills Training for the Visually Impaired in Bamenda, Cameroon
The Hope Social Union for the Visually Impaired (HSUVI), located in Bamenda, Northwest Region of Cameroon, recently hosted a transformative vocational training program focused on household detergent production. Participants, all visually impaired individuals, received hands-on experience in making powder soap, liquid soap, and bleach—everyday essentials used in homes across the country.
This initiative is a prime example of empowerment for the visually impaired in Africa, equipping them with practical entrepreneurial skills and opening doors to economic independence.

Why This Skills Training Program Matters
In Cameroon and across Africa, many persons living with disabilities face limited access to employment. HSUVI is tackling this challenge through inclusive skill-building programs that empower the blind and visually impaired with income-generating opportunities.
By training them in detergent production for home use, HSUVI promotes:
- ✅ Sustainable livelihoods for people with disabilities
- ✅ Greater social inclusion and community involvement
- ✅ A cleaner, healthier environment through local, affordable products
- ✅ Entrepreneurship for the blind and visually impaired in Cameroon
